Coriander
Coriander is both an annual and perennial herb. Coriander seeds are actually fruits that are spherical and are green when tender and then brownish-yellow on ripening. They are cultivated in Europe, North Africa, India, South America, Thailand, China, and Malaysia.
Medicinal Properties
The coriander leaves are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and aromatic. The fruits are styptic, anti-inflammatory, carminative, aromatic, digestive, and anthelmintic. Coriander is also known as cilantro or Chinese parsley. Coriander juice can be used to treat the deficiencies of vitamin A, B1, B2, C, and iron.
Coriander Home Remedies
It is used to treat the following conditions:
• Coriander Treats Conjunctivitis
Wash the infected eyes periodically with a coriander seed decoction. It helps to reduce the eye burn and irritation associated with conjunctivitis.
• Coriander Reduces Excessive Heat
During summer, soak aniseeds, coriander seeds, and poppy seeds overnight. Grind this in the morning, filter, and drink. You can flavor it with a little sugar or jaggery to improve the taste. From an Ayurvedic perspective, coriander seeds alleviate pitta symptoms.
• Coriander Alleviates Jaundice
Add 2 tsp of coriander seeds and cumin seeds to water and boil. Filter this and drink it three times a day. It promotes liver function.
• Coriander Cures Indigestion
Coriander is an excellent remedy for indigestion and flatulence, it is mild enough for babies too. Drink a mixture of coriander and dry ginger decoction for diarrhea and flatulence. Or drink coriander juice mixed with some buttermilk.
• Coriander Alleviates Heavy Periods
Prepare a coriander seed decoction and drink a few sips every couple of hours. Coriander seeds are rich in iron and prevent anemia like symptoms that occur during heavy discharge.
• Coriander Reduces High Cholesterol
Prepare a coriander seed decoction or a coriander leaf juice and drink this every day. It keeps the blood cholesterol in check by decreasing LDL or bad cholesterol and raising the level of HDL or good cholesterol in the body.
• Coriander As Fever Reducer
A traditional Indian remedy for fever is a decoction of coriander seeds mixed with milk and honey. It causes the patient to sweat and bring down the temperature.
