Happy Easter!
Of course it’s a holiday and you want to enjoy with your family. But you should care about your health …
So here are some tips to have a healthy Easter!
1. Enjoy!
Holidays are the times for memories to be made and to enjoy quality time with the family. Allow yourself a few treats, savor your favorite treats and make a pact with yourself not to feel guilty about indulging a little on this special day!
2. Try to make homemade treats
Get busy in the kitchen with your kids and create some delicious and healthy goodies. We love Homemade Creamy Chocolate Easter Eggs, Hot Cross Muffins, Bunny Rabbit Cookies with Blueberry Filling and Chocolate Almond Scones. They are all fun and easy to make.
3. Notice to the labels
Have a quick look at the ingredients label before you make your Easter purchases. The main ingredients to watch out for include preservatives, flavorings and colorings. If the ingredients list is as long as your arm and includes lots of ‘E’ numbers, put the eggs back on the shelf.
4. Hide Easter Candy from Yourself
It’s okay to indulge in a little Easter candy this holiday, but if you’re going to keep it in the house, put it up high and out of reach. This way, when the guests aren’t around and you’re having that craving for a little sugar rush, you’ll stop and ask yourself if it’s time for a treat. It’s fine to allow yourself a little sugar once in a while, but if the candy is right there when you walk in the door you may find you’re sometimes treat turns into a habit.
5. Do not let children to eat Easter chocolate before the meal
Allowing kids to eat a whole chocolate egg first thing in the morning is a recipe for disaster. Keep chocolate as an after-meal snack, that way they won’t have a huge spike in their blood sugar and subsequent crash, which ends up being unpleasant for everyone!
So make sure they have a decent protein-based meal before tackling their stash.
6. Bring Your Own Healthy Options
If you’re worried about overeating or getting to your party venue and not having enough healthy options – bring you own! It’s always a good idea (and polite too) to come with something in hand. If you’re a health-conscious eater, bring a dish that you know you can snack on without feeling guilty. Veggies and dip or homemade kale chips are always smart options!
